Learning Happens Everywhere. Wilburton has quickly become a public school standard for excellence in immersive learning and student engagement. Partnering with Microsoft, Wilburton is a designated Lighthouse School, and is part of a technologically linked global learning community that offers individual learning technology to each student and real-time interaction with elementary classrooms around the world. The degree to which educational and environmental sustainability are not merely concepts at Wilburton, but a life-style and daily practice, is a hallmark of the school.
Sustainability Vanguard. A variety of active and passive sustainable strategies make Wilburton a regional leader in measurable resource and environmental conservation. Extensive daylighting, natural ventilation, and sensor and zone controlled lighting and HVAC were integrated throughout the interior. Multiple rain gardens and a green roof adjacent to the STEAM courtyard augments experiential learning opportunities provided by three preserved wetland areas on site. A photovoltaic array, geo-thermal heating/cooling system and solar water heating work together to both generate and conserve energy.
